Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area

Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area was established in 1978.  There is a unique cultural significance about The National Parks.  Paramount Pictures owns a historic movie ranch in the National Park System where you can actually watch how movies are made in action.  The National Park Service Visitor Center is situated at 401 West Hillcrest Drive in Thousand Oaks, California. Los Angeles International Airport and the Hollywood/Burbank Airport are within the area so there’s easy access.

The place is for kids, adults and teachers where nature and science can be both learned.  There are no entrance fees in Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area although they do have a charge for campers.

Permits are issued for:

  • filming
  • trail events
  • festivals & community events
  • business
  • first amendment rights

The National Park Service Visitor Center is open daily from 9AM to 5PM but closed during Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Day and some federal holidays.  For more information you may call 805-370-2301.
