Big Bend National Park in southwest Texas is one of the largest and least visited of America’s national parks. Here, you can explore over 801,000 acres, ranging from an elevation of less than 2,000 feet along the Rio Grande to nearly 8,000 feet in the Chisos Mountains. Big Bend includes massive canyons, vast desert expanses, and the entire Chisos Mountain range.
The Big Bend wonderland can be visited at anytime of the year. Winter nights can be freezing cold especially in the mountains while the daytime can be an accommodating time in the desert field. The heat is quite unbearable in the desert during summer but if you go to the mountains, the climate is more comfortable for visitors. There are also rains during summer and this can be a source of flood and closed doors in the passages towards the big bend. Hikers should be well prepared during camping as weather is the leading source of injuries and death among hikers.
